Shetland Select 2011 in Glasgow City Cup and Hampden Tour
The Shetland Select 2011 squad traveled to Glasgow last Thursday to participate in the Glasgow City Cup.
They had a free day on the Friday and had the pleasure of touring Hampden, where they were greeted outside the main entrance by Scott Robertson, the SYFA Chair. They appreciated the unique opportunity to visit the Scottish FA Board room.
The Shetland Select 2011 squad consists of players from various Shetland clubs, training weekly in summer and bi-weekly in winter.
They took part in the Glasgow City Cup tournament, which featured four groups, with the top two teams advancing to the quarter-finals. They successfully progressed from the group stage to the quarter-finals, achieving one win, one draw, and one loss to the semi-finalists.
In the quarter-finals, they faced the impressive Carbrain FC Navy, who ultimately finished as the runners-up. Finishing in the top half was commendable, but the team valued the experience and lessons learned from the tournament.
They stayed until the tournament ended on Sunday, enjoying watching the Semi-Final and Final, followed by a night of bowling. The next day, they returned to Aberdeen and spent an afternoon at Codona’s Fair. After shopping, they took an overnight ferry, arriving home on July 29th.
The players had a fantastic experience, and coaches Robert Geddes, Scott Hatrick, Colin Leask, and Barney Redman were very proud
